Addis Fikir — which translates as “Addis Love” — is an ongoing Ethiopian anthology television series that launched on Abol TV in 2025. Created by Besufekade Mulu and produced by Leul Shoaferaw of WAG Entertainment in Addis Ababa, Addis Fikir is a collection of stories about people experiencing life in a city whose rhythms constantly change. Characters either embrace the changes or fight them. In the process, they find meaning, understanding, a new love, or a missing piece of their own identity.
The first half of the anthology premiered April 7, 2025, and followed seven different people: an inventor who cannot afford a gift for his son, a teenage girl trying to get to a concert behind her strict mother’s back, a woman whose TikTok persona accidentally makes her a love guru, two theater actors reunited after 25 years, and a painter whose livelihood is threatened by AI — each telling a separate, complete story of life in Ethiopia’s capital city. The second half is scheduled to be broadcast this month, specific dates pending.
Addis Fikir is in Amharic and airs on Abol TV, MultiChoice’s Ethiopian channel available on its pan-African satellite television platform DStv. The show has been nominated for two awards at the upcoming 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) — Best Writing (TV Series) and Best Indigenous Language Film (East Africa) — with the ceremony on May 9 in Lagos, Nigeria. It has also been selected for INPUT 2026, an international public broadcasting conference, where it screens on May 6 in Bogotá, Colombia.
