What are people watching in African cinemas, and what are African films earning in their home markets?
African Film Press brings publicly available box office figures together on one page so readers can follow both.
The second edition of our Africa Box Office contains 63 reported results for 44 films. Its current figures come from Egypt, Nigeria and South Africa, plus results for two releases in Kenya.
The page has two current rankings: a Continental Top 10 for films of any origin, and a Continental Top 10 for African films identified by their filmmakers, stories and settings.
A third ranking compares African films’ highest recorded earnings in a home market from 2020 to the present.
“Resident Evil” leads the all-films ranking at approximately US$225,285 across Egypt, Nigeria and South Africa. “Red Flag” leads the African-film ranking with approximately US$110,621 in Egypt. “7 Dogs” leads the 2020-to-present ranking.
Each result shows its local-currency figure and reporting dates. You can also see results from previous weeks.

We hope the page encourages more regular local box office reporting and grows into a fuller view of cinema activity across Africa as more countries make their figures public.
