Cameroon’s Écrans Noirs Names 28-Title Official Selection for 30th Edition

African Film Press — October 6, 2026

Écrans Noirs turns 30.

The film festival in Yaoundé, Cameroon, has named 28 films and series for its 2026 edition. It runs Nov. 21 to 28.

This year's festival pays tribute to Bassek Ba Kobhio (1957–2026), the Cameroonian filmmaker who launched it in 1997. The theme is "Cinema, Our Weapon of Peace."

The titles come from 11 African countries. Cameroon has the most, with nine. The others are Gabon, the Republic of the Congo, DR Congo, Madagascar, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Tunisia, Morocco, Nigeria and Côte d'Ivoire.

There are six sections: Cameroonian features, Central African features, documentaries, international features, series and short films. Juries will award prizes.

In the international section:

  • Maryam Touzani's "Calle Malaga" (Morocco)
  • Olive Nwosu's "Lady" (Nigeria)
  • David Mboussou's "Afrotôpia" (Gabon)
  • Oumar Dagnon's "Angele" (Burkina Faso)
  • Jamel Zran's "Mon ami" (Tunisia)
  • Enah Johnscott's "Lights Out" (Cameroon)

The documentaries include:

  • Mamadou Dia's "Atcha Atcha" (Senegal)
  • "Dear Ancestor" by Lova Nantenaina and Eva Lova-Bély (Madagascar).

Screenings take place at the Palais des Congrès, the Institut Français and Yaoundé City Hall.

The program also includes masterclasses, training sessions, a film market, a conference with academics and critics, and a cinema corner for children aged 4 to 10.
