CANAL+ and Samsung are extending their partnership to the English- and Portuguese-speaking African markets served by MultiChoice Group. For the first time, a MultiChoice streaming app — DStv Stream — will come pre-installed on Samsung Smart TVs in these markets.
Starting June 1, 2026, the DStv Stream app will ship pre-installed on all new Samsung Smart TVs across 18 African countries, including South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Angola, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. The arrangement extends a CANAL+–Samsung collaboration already running across 40 markets in Europe, French-speaking Africa, and Asia.
Samsung users will reach DStv Stream directly from the home screen, with access to the full 2026 FIFA World Cup, the English Premier League, domestic and international rugby, and a range of local and international entertainment.
David Mignot, CEO of CANAL+ Africa and CEO of MultiChoice Group, said: "We are delighted to extend our longstanding partnership with Samsung across new English and Portuguese-speaking African countries. It marks a significant milestone in the synergies created by the combination of CANAL+ and MultiChoice Group. As viewing habits continue to evolve rapidly across the continent, strengthening the accessibility and discoverability of our content offer on connected devices is key. By expanding the availability of our applications on Samsung Smart TVs across key African markets, we are making it even easier for millions of MultiChoice Group's subscribers to seamlessly access the content that define the uniqueness of CANAL+ and MultiChoice Group experience"
This is ultimately a distribution-and-retention move. After CANAL+ took effective control of MultiChoice on September 22, 2025, and MultiChoice announced the discontinuation of Showmax on March 5, 2026, DStv Stream is being promoted as the surviving MultiChoice streaming service. The Samsung deal gives that app home-screen placement on new Samsung Smart TVs across 18 African markets from June 1, 2026.
The reach should not be overstated: it applies to new Samsung sets, not every connected TV already in use, and pre-installation does not guarantee viewing. The placement can still accumulate value as TV fleets turn over.
