Ousman Umar's life story is heading to international buyers with North to Paradise, a new feature based on the Ghanaian author and activist's bestselling memoir.
Directed by Dani Sancho and brought to market by Latido Films, the film traces Umar's journey from Ghana to Barcelona after leaving home at 14 in search of a different life. Shot in Accra, Swedru, Elmina, Barcelona, and other parts of Catalonia, the feature stars Victor Sey, Benjamin Kakraba, Emma Vilarasau, and Umar as his adult self.
Today, Umar is the founder of Nasco Feeding Minds, a Ghana-based NGO that builds computer-equipped schools to expand digital education and address the conditions that drive irregular migration.
The film is set for a 2026 release in Spain.
