Senegal has selected Mamadou Khouma Guèye’s documentary “Liti-Liti” as its submission for Best International Feature Film at the 99th Academy Awards, which will take place on 14 March 2027 in Los Angeles.
The country’s national selection committee chose the film after meeting by video conference on 22 September 2026. The committee considered two submissions: “Liti-Liti” and Nicolas Sawalo Cissé’s fiction feature “La Mémoire du Manguier.”
According to Senegal’s Directorate of Cinematography, the selection considered the films’ artistic and technical qualities, theatrical release requirements, image and sound, writing and narrative construction, and Academy qualification requirements. Senegalese national news agency APS reported the decision on 24 September 2026.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has set 30 September 2026 as the deadline for countries and regions to submit films for the International Feature Film category. The 99th Academy Awards are scheduled for 14 March 2027.
