Seydou Sarr and Abou Sangaré Join Fatou Hane in Mathieu Volpe's "L'Or Rouge"

Filming starts August 3 in Bari, Italy, on Belgian filmmaker Mathieu Volpe's first fiction feature, "L'Or Rouge," starring two of the most talked-about emerging actors in European cinema of the past two years.

Seydou Sarr won the Marcello Mastroianni Award at Venice for his debut in "Io Capitano," Matteo Garrone's Oscar-nominated drama about two Senegalese teenagers' migration to Europe.

Abou Sangaré, a Guinean auto mechanic with no prior acting experience, won Best Performance in Un Certain Regard at Cannes, the César Award for Most Promising Actor, the Lumière Award for Best Actor, and a European Film Award for his role in "Souleymane's Story."

In "L'Or Rouge," they join Fatou Hane, a Senegalese actress based in Belgium, who plays Mariama, a 45-year-old Senegalese woman who arrives in a southern Italian community for agricultural workers claiming to seek work while actually searching for a missing person.

The film is produced by Delphine Tomson for Les Films du Fleuve and co-produced by Marie-Ange Luciani for Les Films de Pierre, with support from the Wallonia Brussels Federation, the CNC, and Creative Media Europe, among others.
