Showmax has now put a hard deadline on its closure. In an email sent to subscribers on March 18, the platform confirmed that March 31 is the last day to renew a subscription or redeem vouchers, April 1 is the last day for new sign-ups, and all access ends by the end of April 2026. The March 5 announcement that Showmax would be discontinued gave no specific dates — this email is the first time the company has put a firm timeline on the closure.

What happens to the content is not yet confirmed. The email says details on accessing Showmax Originals on DStv Stream — MultiChoice's app for watching DStv over a mobile or home internet connection, without a satellite dish — are coming, but no migration plan has been announced. Canal+ CEO Maxime Saada has said publicly that the Canal+ App will eventually replace Showmax across MultiChoice's African markets, but no rollout date has been set. For subscribers in markets like Kenya — where DStv Stream's lowest tier already costs more than twice what a Showmax Entertainment plan did — those questions have not been answered.
