First-Look Clip: "Tutu" Documentary Premiering at Berlinale
February 18, 2026
Sam Pollard's documentary follows South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu, the Anglican cleric who received the Nobel Peace Prize on December 10, 1984, for his role in the struggle against apartheid. Drawing on more than two decades of previously unseen archival footage shot by South African journalists Roger Friedman and Benny Gool, the film captures moments with Tutu's family, congregations, and political leaders.
Tutu served as Archbishop of Cape Town from September 7, 1986, to June 1996, and later chaired South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission after the country's first democratic elections on April 27, 1994.
Pollard, an American director known for "4 Little Girls" (1997) and "MLK/FBI" (2020), builds the documentary around Tutu's own words and testimony from people who knew him.
Produced by HiddenLight Production Studios and Universal Pictures Content Group. Worldwide sales handled by Cinetic Media.
The Berlin International Film Festival runs from February 12 to 22, 2026.
