TV5MONDE has committed €1 million to Morocco's animation sector, funding roughly ten French-language edutainment series, the French-language network announced on June 24.
The money comes from an exceptional grant awarded to TV5MONDE by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. Eight of the commissioned series are now being delivered and will reach audiences over the coming months on the generalist TV5MONDE channel, the children's channel TiVi5MONDE, and the streaming service TV5MONDE+.
The investment is part of a partnership between TV5MONDE, Moroccan creators, Morocco, and France to support French-language production. All of the series are made in French and built to carry the shared values of the Francophonie to younger viewers.
Two studios anchor the slate. Neverseen Productions, founded by Yassine Lahrichi, works with characters drawn from the everyday lives of young people. Art'coustic Studios, led by Ali Rguigue, leans toward heritage and historical storytelling.
The Morocco commitment follows TV5MONDE's earlier backing of studios in sub-Saharan Africa, including Ivory Coast and Madagascar. The network has built up its animation support by way of TiVi5MONDE, which draws 30 million viewers each week.
TV5MONDE casts the Moroccan series as a way for young audiences to meet heroes, stories, and a cultural heritage tied to the Maghreb's place in the Francophone world.
TV5MONDE bills itself as the world's leading French-language general-interest television network, with ten channels in more than 400 million homes, subtitling in 12 languages, and the TV5MONDE+ streaming platform available in 200 countries and territories.
