Applications are open for the first African edition of the World AI Film Festival (WAIFF), with the regional competition scheduled for February 2027 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. The call opened on 24 September 2026 and closes on 31 December 2026.
The competition covers filmmakers and creators from Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, Benin, Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Togo, Burkina Faso and Chad.
Seven categories are open: AI Short Film, AI Vertical, AI Advertising/Branded Content, AI Music Video, AI Documentary, Social Impact Prize and Best Female Creation Prize.
The Abidjan edition is operated by DUX Côte d’Ivoire and Kaydan Technology, companies within the Abidjan-based Kaydan Group, under a franchise agreement with Institut EuropIA, the French organization that created the World AI Film Festival. The agreement covering the 10 African markets was signed on 18 June 2026 during VivaTech in Paris, France.
Organizers are also planning an audiovisual AI training programme for more than 300 participants, with seven training modules scheduled between October and December 2026.
The Abidjan awards ceremony is scheduled for 6 February 2027. African winners will advance to the WAIFF international final at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, France, on 6–7 April 2027.
