Leyla Bouzid's "In a Whisper" Secures U.S. Deal With Strand Releasing

California-based Strand Releasing acquired Tunisian filmmaker Leyla Bouzid's latest, "In a Whisper," following its world premiere in Competition at the ongoing 76th Berlin International Film Festival.
A U.S. theatrical release is planned for late summer or fall 2026, following additional festival screenings.
"In a Whisper" follows Lilia, a young Parisian woman who returns to Tunisia for her uncle's funeral. Her family is unaware of her life abroad, including her relationship with another woman.
As she investigates the circumstances surrounding her uncle's sudden death, she confronts her own withheld truths.
The film stars Hiam Abbass, known globally for the HBO series "Succession," and Tunisian actor Eya Bouteraa. Supporting cast members include Marion Barbeau, Salma Baccar and Feriel Chamari.
The acquisition deal was negotiated between Jon Gerrans of Strand Releasing and Nicolas Brigaud-Robert of Playtime.
Bouzid previously directed "A Tale of Love and Desire," which closed Critics' Week at the Cannes Film Festival in July 2021, and "As I Open My Eyes," which premiered at the Venice Film Festival in September 2015.
